Jacqui MacConnell has been with the Phoenix Police Department since 1994. She has worked in Patrol, Sex Crimes, the Academy and Drug Enforcement. She lived in Colombia, South America for two years as a child and learned Spanish while living there. She also studied Spanish in college. As a Phoenix police officer she uses Spanish nearly every day.
Edwin Martinez was born and raised in New York City. He was born to first generation Puerto Rican parents. His first language is Spanish. While growing up he learned English but Spanish remained the predominant language in his household. After graduating high school, Mr. Martinez joined the Air Force. He returned to civilian life after four years and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Spanish from Edinboro University in Erie, Pennsylvania. He started working for American Express in New York City and was transferred to Phoenix, Arizona. He has now been a Phoenix Police Officer for twenty-one years and has worked a variety of details during this time. He is currently a detective for the department. Mr. Martinez enjoys teaching and has a passion to help fellow officers learn Spanish.
