VIOLENT ENCOUNTER AVOIDANCE AND RESPONSE WORKSHOP – VEAR
Aside from learning how to avoid becoming a victim of violent crime, learn how to defend yourself if needed. This 4 hour Women’s Violent Encounter and Avoidance workshop provides the information given in the Violent Encounter Avoidance seminar as well as giving you the opportunity to learn basic defense moves. This workshop is for women and girls of all ages.
As well as learning how NOT to become a victim of violent crime, the law of defending yourself and/or a third person (based on the Arizona Revised Statutes), the pros and cons of carrying weapons to defend yourself, abduction precautions, and travel safety tips, the students learn some basic self defense moves and have the opportunity to practice those moves on strike bags. Finally, another instructor in protective clothing allows the students to use and actually practice what they have learned in a variety of scenarios.
Lieutenant MacConnell and Officer Monigan have been teaching defensive tactics at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy for a combined 9 years. Officer Monigan has studied Muay Thai kick boxing for seventeen years. Lieutenant MacConnell has studied a variety of martial arts since 1985. They work with victims of every crime you can imagine every day. They see the effects of violent crime as part of their jobs. They use this experience combined with their martial arts backgrounds to provide information that will make you safer.
