SAFETY TIPS

On the Street
  • Look people in the eyes
  • Do not be afraid to address people, especially those you are scared of
  • Be confident! Head up and look around at your surroundings!
Your House
  • Do not enter house until garage door is closed (know that it has closed)
  • Close windows and blinds at night (fish bowl)
  • Make sure all windows and doors are locked
  • Check to see who is at door before opening it, if you can’t see them, don’t open it
  • Where can someone hide around your house?
  • How is your outside lighting?
In Parking Lots
  • Who/what are you parked next to?
    • Do not park next to vans, motor homes, big vehicles if it can be avoided
  • Put purse in vehicle, keep keys on you, then load vehicle
  • Make sure no one is hiding in your vehicle
  • Make sure no one is hiding under your vehicle
In Vehicles
  • Be aware of who is around you when parked
    • Consider moving locations
  • Keep doors locked at all times
Miscellaneous
  • Do not give out full name to strangers
  • Keep vehicle/house keys out of purse
    • If purse is stolen, they will not have vehicle or house keys
  • Be aware if garage door opener is inside vehicle with paperwork saying where you live (Vehicle gets stolen, suspects will have access to your house)
  • Don’t be afraid to look people in the eyes and address them
  • Be aware of your tone of voice and how you represent yourself to people
  • What is inside your purse/wallet? Do you REALLY need it with you?\
